BENEFITS of STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION (ROLFING®)
THE TECHNIQUE OF IDA P. ROLF PHD.

The goal of Rolfing is to allow the body to move naturally into a good posture by eliminating the causes of skeletal misalinignments and restoring the body’s connective tissue into a healthy state.

Our bodies are constantly affected by the forces of gravity. When we are out of balance, gravity drags us down, just like it drags down a building that has lost its architectural integrity. Whether the body’s structural integrity was exhausted by poor posture, injury, illness or emotional distress, an unbalanced body is struggling with gravity, causing pain, stress, and decreased energy.

When the body looses its structural integrity, the fascia shortens and thickens in patterns of strain and tightness. These patterns manifest in slouched bodies with heads too far forward, knock knees or bowed legs, flat feed or high arches, spinal curvatures, tilted pelvis and numerous other structural mis-alignments.

Structural Integration is a gentle hands on technique used to free these holding patterns and fascia restrictions to move and retrain the body and posture back into balance. With controlled pressure and direction the fascia is softened and lengthened, allowing the body to “right” itself effortlessly in gravity. The fascia sheaths that surround muscles loosen and realign the tissue around joints which create better balance, posture, movement and function.

The results are progressive. Some of the positive results can be:

ENHANCED PERFORMANCE
-relief from posture-related pain
-improved mechanical efficiency
-improved coordination
-greater flexibility
-improved body awareness

INCREASED PHYSIOLOGICAL EFFICIENCY
-improved breathing
-improved circulation
-improved digestion
-improved elimination
-improved sleeping patterns

IMPROVED ALIGNMENT AND APPEARANCE PREVENTING
-pain and stiffness associated with aging
-stooping and compression associated with aging
-skin, muscles, and organs sagging from poor posture

IMPROVED PSYCHOLGICAL EFFICIENCY
-you feel GOOD
-you learn to manage or avoid stress
-You may experience growth through self-insight

Research has demonstrated that Rolfing creates a more efficient use of the muscles, allows the body to conserve energy, and creates more economical and refined patterns of movement.

Research also shows that Rolfing significantly reduces chronic stress and changes in the body structure.

For example, a study showed that Rolfing significantly reduced the spinal curvature of subjects with lordosis (sway back); it also showed that Rolfing enhances neurological functioning.

Athletes, dancers, children, business professionals, and people from all walks of life have benefited from Rolfing.

People seek Rolfing as a way to ease pain and chronic stress, and improve performance in their professional and daily activities.

Rolfing is great for kids too!

It’s estimated that more than 1 million people have received Rolfing work.
